Two men accused of killing a Burrell Boom couple near the Crooked Tree junction pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder when they appeared in the High Court yesterday. 31-year-old Jovannie Jones and 25-year-old Jerwin Segura were indicted before Justice Nigel Pilgrim for the January 20, 2025, shooting deaths of Felix Martinez and his wife, Adelita Gillett, an employee of Brodies Pharmacy. The couple were shot inside their vehicle in Biscayne Village. Police believe the killings followed a dispute involving a vehicle transaction. Jones appeared with his attorney, Leeroy Banner, while Segura was unrepresented. When asked about legal representation, Segura told the court that he wanted an attorney but could not afford one. Justice Pilgrim indicated that the court would appoint an attorney to represent him, given the seriousness of the charges. The matter was adjourned for a further mention, with legal representation for Segura to be arranged before case management and the setting of a trial date. Both men were further remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
