Police are investigating an attempted murder following a shooting Tuesday night at the corner of Berkley Street and West Canal in Belize City. Shortly after 9:00 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunshots in the area. By the time police arrived, the injured men had already been transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment. At the hospital, authorities found 27-year-old Ryan Thompson of Euphrates Avenue and 21-year-old Deon Gladden of Far West Street suffering from gunshot injuries. Both men were listed in stable condition. Initial investigations indicate that around 8:50 p.m., the victims were walking along Berkley Street after making a purchase on Plues Street when they heard several loud explosions and felt burning sensations to their bodies. The men ran toward West Canal where they received assistance near a nearby shop before being transported to the hospital by an unidentified driver in a red vehicle. Scenes of Crime personnel processed the area and recovered several expended shells along with blood samples. Medico-legal forms were issued to both victims. Police have identified a person of interest and continue to review surveillance footage as investigations into the shooting remain ongoing.
