Two Motorcycles Collide in Central Farm Leaving One Dead, Three Injured

Just after nine o’clock on Friday night, a fatal road traffic incident played out on the George Price Highway in the Central Farm area.  In a rare sighting, two motorcycles collided between miles 63 and 64, resulting in the death of 28-year-old, Keith Andy Guzman, and the hospitalization of three other persons.  The incident is the result of a failed attempt by Guzman to overtake a vehicle heading in the direction of Belmopan.  The three others who were injured are 29-year-old Antonio Castillo who was with Guzman, as well as 25-year-old Peter Vasquez who was driving the other motorcycle, and his passenger, 33-year-old, Sucely Bogaert.  According to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Stacy Smith, the postmortem examination will determine if alcohol was a factor in this incident.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “The responding officers observed four persons on the road with varying degrees of injury to their bodies and two motorcycles that were damaged. One of the injured persons who was subsequently identified as Keith Guzman, a 28-year-old Belizean laborer of Santa Elena Town, succumbed to his injuries that he sustained on the scene of the accident while the other three individuals were transported to the hospital for medical attention. What the ongoing investigation has so far revealed is that the motorcycles were traveling in opposite direction where it is alleged that one of the motorcycles attempted to overtake a vehicle and in the course of doing so it collided with the other motorcycle. The collision resulting in the injury of Peter Vasquez, Sicely Bogart who were traveling on one of the motorcycle and the death of Keith Guzman and the injury of Antonio Castillo who were traveling on the other motorcycle. I noted that no helmets were seen on the individuals but I believe helmets were found on the scene so that may suggest that they were just not fastened.”

The families of Castillo and Bogaert are appealing for blood donations as the two remain critical.  Meanwhile, a candlelight vigil was held at the crash site in memory of Guzman.
