The T&T Police Service has confirmed that Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard has ordered that an inquest be held into the death of Kern Patrick, which occurred on June 12 at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.
Guardian Media understands two teenage male suspects who were held in connection with the matter by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Intelligence Unit, were also ordered released pending the findings of the inquest.
The decision was made on Wednesday.
Patrick, 43, of Canaan, Tobago, was found along Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, with an injury to his right shoulder and chest on May 20.
He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital for treatment and then transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for further treatment, where he subsequently died.
A statement from the TTPS noted that investigations were supervised by ASP (Ag) Ramjag, Insp (Ag) Stanislaus, Insp (Ag) Seecharan and Insp (Ag) Ramsumair, all of HBI Region One, together with various agencies, and that PC Khan, also of HBI Region One, is the complainant in the matter.
