US actor Tyrese has joined calls for greater public access to beaches in Jamaica.
In a post shared on social media, the actor expressed strong concern over restrictions affecting access to some of the island’s beaches.
“This is so dark and horrible and disgusting and disrespectful. I don’t care what anybody says,” Tyrese wrote.
He also compared the situation to apartheid, questioning, “What’s next? Are they gonna put WHITES ONLY SIGNS on the beaches?”
Tyrese’s comments come amid ongoing advocacy for the protection of public access to Jamaica’s beaches.
Recently, Grammy-winner Keznamdi teamed up with JaBBEM (Jamaica Beach Birthright Environmental Movement) for the documentary, Beach Inna Bondage: The Fight for Jamaica’s Coastline.
JaBBEM is a grassroots advocacy group campaigning for the legal right of all people in Jamaica to freely access the island’s beaches and sea.
