27-year-old Tyrique Swaso entered a guilty plea before Justice Nigel Pilgrim today to secure a lesser charge than murder. The murder charge dates to 2022, when both Swaso and 28-year-old Gilroy Howard stabbed 23-year-old Emroy Tracey to death. Reports indicated that Tracey was visiting his neighbour’s home at the corner of Iguana and Curassow Street in Belize City to deliver some money to a relative. That’s when both men demanded money from him. A struggle ensued during which he was stabbed to death. Swaso’s guilty plea came three months after his co-accused, Gilroy Howard Thomas, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years. With time already served, Thomas is expected to serve 12 years for a lesser charge of manslaughter, reduced from the original murder charge. Represented by Attorney Norman Rodriguez, Tyrique Swaso now hopes to receive a reduced sentence for murder when he appears before the court for sentencing tomorrow.
