U17, U20 Girlz earn silver medals at Jewels of the Caribbean tournament

The under-17 and the under-20 Reggae Girlz finished second in the recent Jewels of the Caribbean tournament hosted in Trinidad and Tobago following respective losses to the United States-based club Indy Premier on Sunday.

The under-17 Girlz were defeated 3-0 in their final in the double header played at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, while the under-20 Girlz fell 1-0 in their finale.

The silver medals capped off a strong campaign throughout the international tournament, which served as preparation for the upcoming Concacaf Women’s U17 Qualifiers.

The U17 Girlz started their campaign in dominant fashion, turning back the SSFL Future Starts 5-2 on match day one.

They made it two wins in a row when they turned back Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 in a hotly contested match.

Their good fortunes came crashing down, however, as, in their final game of the group stage, they were thumped 5-0 by a rampaging Indy Premier team.

The U17 Girlz had a chance at redemption when they advanced to the final for a rematch against Indy Premier, but could not find the right gear as they fell 3-0.

The tournament was used as preparation for the Concacaf U17 Qualifiers, where Jamaica has been drawn in Group D, alongside Honduras, Guyana, Aruba, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Qualifiers will kick off on January 24, with all their games to be hosted in Aruba.

The group winners will advance to the final round of the qualifiers, alongside the next best two second-placed teams, and compete for a spot in the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

The team will be coached by Marlon Hylton, with former Reggae Girl Sashana Campbell as his assistant.

It was a similar story for the U20 Girlz, who started their campaign in dominant fashion, brushing aside TT Wolf United 6-0.

Their second game saw them playing out a 2-2 draw against Indy Premier in an intense affair, before their returned to close out the group stage with the 4-0 demolition of Trinidad and Tobago.

In the final, despite a valiant effort, the U20 Girlz could not find the decisive goal and fell 1-0 at the end.

The U20 Girlz, unlike their U17 counterparts, will not be in Concacaf action next year, as the next Concacaf Qualifiers are set for 2027.
