Jamaica’s under-21 Sunshine Girls are fine tuning preparation for the highly anticipated Netball Youth World Cup set to be hosted in Gibraltar from September 19-28.
According to assistant coach of the team, Nardia Hansen, the youngsters are currently using the ongoing Red Stripe Flavours Elite Netball competition as preparation work leading up to the World Cup, and is proving to be a good litmus test for the group.
This will be the first Netball Youth World Cup hosted since 2017. The Jamaicans have twice step on the podium having received a silver medal in 2000 and a bronze medal at the 2013 games.
Hansen shared that she’s anticipating a strong showing from the girls when the tournament gets underway.
The team received a financial boost from the Bob and Rita Marley Foundation to the tune of $500,000.
Hansen stated that the funds couldn’t have come at a better juncture in the preparation phase.
