UDP Endorses Bernadette Fernandez for Twin Towns Municipal Race

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has announced that Bernadette “Bernie” Fernandez will receive the party’s endorsement as one of its councilor candidates for the upcoming San Ignacio/Santa Elena Municipal Elections, without facing a convention challenge. According to a message circulated among party colleagues, the decision follows backing from the UDP’s Central Executive Committee.  While Fernandez’s candidacy will not go to a vote at convention level, the UDP says a convention will still be held to select the party’s remaining five councilor candidates for the Twin Towns. The proposed date is Sunday, August 2, subject to any further recommendations from the Western Regional Leadership Team.  The party says the exercise will be conducted as a closed convention, meaning only UDP members will be allowed to participate in the selection process. PUP officials, delegates and officers will not be permitted to take part.  The announcement gives Fernandez an early endorsement from her party as the UDP begins putting together its full slate for the San Ignacio and Santa Elena municipal race.
