With only three days left for nominations to be submitted to the United Democratic Party (UDP) Secretariat, the party is moving into the next phase of its leadership transition as official nominations have been submitted for five top executive positions ahead of the party’s National Convention. This follows a public notice issued earlier this month inviting qualified party members to apply under the guidelines of Article 8(3) of the UDP Constitution. Love News has confirmed the full slate of nominees for each elected post. For Party Leader, only one nomination has been submitted which is Tracy Panton, the Albert Area Representative, who is now positioned as the sole contender for the party’s top post. For First Deputy Party Leader, the nominee is Hugo Patt, former Deputy Prime Minister and long-serving Corozal North Area Representative. For Second Deputy Party Leader, one nomination was recorded for Miguel Guerra, who will seek the support of delegates to assume the post. A strong field has emerged for National Party Chairperson, with four contenders, namely, Delroy Cutkelvin, Sheena Pitts, Roosevelt Blades and John Saldivar, former Belmopan Area Representative. Meanwhile, the post of Vice Chairperson has attracted two nominees by way of Abdel Cowo and Ivan Williams. The UDP’s Nomination Committee is now expected to verify and finalize the candidates in accordance with the party’s constitution and eligibility rules. The National Convention slated for November 30 is anticipated to be a pivotal event as the party seeks to reorganize its leadership ahead of the next election cycle. An official announcement from the UDP headquarters is expected once the verification process is complete.
