UDP’s Hugo Patt, has issued a press release, signaling that internal conflicts persist within the opposition. In his release, Patt, who referred to himself as the interim leader, urged all members of the National Party Council (NPC) to boycott a meeting scheduled for Saturday, June 14. The call comes after Acting Party Chairman, Alberto August, reportedly refused to postpone the gathering, a move requested by Patt to allow for a comprehensive review of the delegates list. In a letter dated yesterday, addressed to August, Patt, in the capacity as interim Party Leader, explicitly directed the postponement of the NPC meeting. The stated reason was to ensure his participation, alongside August, in a thorough review of the delegate roster before any NPC meeting could proceed. However, according to Patt’s statement released this morning, August “refused to do so.” This refusal has prompted the interim leader to publicly inform all NPC members that the upcoming meeting at the UDP Headquarters in Belize City is being held against his wishes and despite his direction to him for postponement and review of the delegates list. As a result, Patt appealed directly to NPC members to not attend the NPC meeting this weekend. In conclusion, Patt assured party members that steps would be taken to “reschedule a legitimate meeting of the NPC at the earliest opportunity.”
