Union Rallies Public Officers as Tensions Rise Ahead of Industrial Action

Adding to the pressure, the PSU today issued a strongly worded Facebook statement addressed to public officers across the affected departments, including BTSD staff, firefighters, domestic auxiliaries, patient care assistants, dental personnel, and NEMO officers.  In the statement, the union says public officers’ “cries for protection and fairness echo with a power that cannot be ignored,” accusing the Government of remaining silent despite months of appeals. It urges workers to unite, declaring that “your individual power, combined, creates an unstoppable force.”  The union also frames the issue as a broader struggle for dignity and respect, noting that frontline officers face hazardous conditions, life-threatening environments, and chronic understaffing, yet remain committed to serving the Belizean people.  With rising tensions over allowances, the BTSD transition dispute, and a 21-day industrial action notice expiring tomorrow, the PSU says it will continue organizing and pushing for accountability.  Love News will continue to monitor the response from the Ministry of Finance and any further action from the union.
