U.S. Ambassador André Bauer joined the crowds at Orange Walk’s carnival on Monday and says he was delighted by what he saw. Bauer watched the festivities along the parade route, met residents and spent time with people taking part in the celebration. Speaking to the media today, the ambassador reflected on his visit and the welcome he received in Orange Walk.
André Bauer, US Ambassador to Belize: “If you hadn’t been, you need to get there. I got invited to come down and my staff had planned for me to do about half of it but that wasn’t happening. We stayed till the end. It was dark by the time we got done. I got to shake so many hands, meet so many incredible people, such diverse backgrounds. But I can tell you this, I don’t know any place I’ve ever been in the world, and I’ve probably been close to 50 countries, that people had more pride in their country. 45 years strong is impressive but how much people love this country, how much they take real pride in their independence is impressive. I’m glad I get to be a part of it. And Orange Walk was a great way to get to experience real Belizean culture.”
