US Embassy Staff Tour Belize National Assembly

Staff from the United States Embassy in Belmopan visited Belize’s National Assembly yesterday for a firsthand look at the country’s legislative process and the work of its parliamentary institutions. The delegation participated in a guided tour led by National Assembly personnel, including Clerk to the National Assembly Clarita Pech and Acting Deputy Clerk Manuel Grant. Two members of Parliament also joined the engagement.  During the visit, embassy staff toured the Chamber and learned about the respective roles of the House of Representatives and the Senate. They were also taken through the stages of Belize’s lawmaking process, from the introduction of a bill to its debate and final passage into law.  The visitors received information on the work of parliamentary committees, which examine proposed legislation and provide opportunities for closer review and public consultation.  Officials say the exchange reflects shared interest in supporting strong democratic institutions, effective governance and a better understanding of the parliamentary process.
