Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has hit back at Opposition Spokesman on Education, Senator Damion Crawford, over his criticism of the Rural School Bus Programme.

Minister Vaz addressed Senator Crawford’s alternate plan for school transportation during a broadcast on social media platform X on Monday.

The first batch of buses, 25 arrived at Kingston Wharves on Sunday.

According to Minister Vaz, under phase one of the programme, 110 buses will be imported at a cost of $1.4 billion. Of these, 100 buses will operate across rural routes, while 10 will be kept as reserve units for maintenance or emergency coverage.

Minister Vaz says Senator Crawford’s plan is woefully inadequate, based on the numbers involved.
