West Portland member of parliament, Daryl Vaz, says the campaign leading up to the general election due in September will be a battle for the truth.
His comment, made at a meeting of the Jamaica Labour Party’s Area Council Two in Portland on Sunday, was an apparent swipe at the People’s National Party, PNP.
Vaz also criticised the PNP for not articulating the plans and policies it will pursue if it forms the next government.
Meanwhile, Vaz says Opposition Leader Mark Golding must use the platform of the budget debate, which starts this week, to lay out the PNP’s plan for governance.
And Daryl Vaz is calling on the police to flush out those fuelling an increase in murders in the parish.

In the latest incident, a businessman, Albert Lindsay, the owner of the Anna Banana restaurant in Port Antonio was shot and killed during a home invasion last week Thursday.
According to data from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, between January 1 and March 8, Portland recorded five murders.
This is compared to two for the corresponding period in 2024.
