Verdes FC, champions of the Premier League of Belize, are preparing for their second consecutive appearance in the Concacaf Central American Cup, but this year’s tournament promises to be significantly more challenging. The official draw, held in Miami, has placed Verdes in Group C, alongside some of the region’s most accomplished clubs. Their group-stage opponents include Deportivo Saprissa and CS Cartaginés from Costa Rica, FC Motagua from Honduras, and CA Independiente from Panama. Each of these clubs brings considerable international experience and a history of success in regional competitions, making Group C one of the toughest brackets in the tournament. On the Morning Show today, Assistant Manager of Verdes FC, Jose Perez said that this is one of the most prepared teams they have had in a while.
Verdes FC will once again face FC Motagua, a familiar foe from their 2023 campaign. In that tournament, Verdes competed in Group D against Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (Costa Rica), Olancho FC (Honduras), and Sporting San Miguelito (Panama), gaining valuable experience despite not advancing past the group stage. Now, Verdes is hoping to improve on that performance with a renewed sense of focus and preparation. Player on the team, Krisean Lopez explained that despite popular opinion, he is in fact a full-time athlete in his club with very little to no breaks throughout the year.
The 2025 edition of the Concacaf Central American Cup will run from July through December and serves not only to determine the region’s top club but also to qualify teams for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.
