Dancehall artiste Versi is preparing to release his debut album P.V.O. (Portland’s Very Own) this summer. Ahead of the album’s release, the artiste dropped the music video for one of the project’s featured songs, Target.

In Target‘s music video, Versi is a ruthless street kingpin on the rise in the criminal underground who doesn’t allow anyone to interfere with his money. Meant to blur the line between fiction and real life, Target‘s visuals depict the harsh realities of men battling for power and money.

Versi’s lyrics in Target aim to match the ruthlessness of his kingpin character, with the deejay declaring just how easy it is to outsmart and take out his enemies.

“Shoot to the target. Focus and we sure seh we nah miss. A who seh we nah rich? Rapid up di tool meck dem heart bleed. Know seh dem a watch we. Weh dem fool deh a chat seh? Benz Coup a neva Voxy. Dog we a meck move and a nuh taxi,” Versi deejays in the song’s chorus.

Target has so far acquired over 32,000 views on YouTube since its release on the platform last Friday. In addition to Target, P.V.O. will feature 15 other songs, and several of Dancehall’s heavyweights are expected to be featured on the project.

Speaking on the album’s long-awaited release, Versi said that it is finally time to give fans a complete body of work. He also highlighted that he is finally prioritising his career after working with other artistes for a number of years.

“Fans have been asking for an album for quite some time, so I felt it was only right to give them a complete body of work… I’ve spent years contributing to the careers of several renowned artistes, but now my focus is fully on my own journey. I’m always recording, and I have enough unreleased material to create multiple albums—this is just the beginning of many projects to come,” Versi said.

Further speaking on the upcoming album, the Portland native explained that the project represents his connection to his home parish as well as his growth and story so far. The artiste, who is currently based in New York City, is set to return to Jamaica to promote P.V.O. and reconnect with his local fanbase.

The Celebrate Life deejay has also hinted that he will be embarking on an official album tour.
