Veteran coach Calvert Fitzgerald believes Jamaica’s senior men’s football team has the quality to advance from the group stage of the 2025 Gold Cup.
The tournament is set for Canada and USA, from June 14 to July 6.
The Reggae Boyz are drawn in Group “C”. They are joined by Panama, Guatemala and Guadeloupe.
The tournament kicks off with a 16-team group stage, featuring four groups of four. The top two teams from each group – eight total – will advance to the knockout stage.
From there, the competition shifts to a single-elimination format, with the winner of each match progressing to the next round.
Calvert is backing Jamaica and Panama to advance from Group “C”.
So-Fi Stadium in Inglewood, California will host the first match of the tournament, on June 14.
Group “A” will feature, Mexico, Costa Rica, Suriname and Dominican Republic. Canada, Honduras, El Salvador and Curacao will compete in Group “B”. Meanwhile, USA, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago and guest team Saudi Arabia make up Group “D”.
Fitzgerald says none of the groups can be characterised as weak.
