DJ Killa Boo, guest performers, and local vendors to mark the launch of Jamaica | Jamaica exhibition on August 16

VP Records will join King Manor Museum to present the third staging of the Spirit of the Caribbean Festival, an outdoor celebration of Caribbean music, food, and culture. The event takes place Saturday, August 16, from 12 to 5 PM at Rufus King Park in Jamaica, Queens.

Spirit of the Caribbean was first held in 2018 and 2019 and returns this year for the first time since then. The free community event coincides with the opening of King Manor Museum’s new exhibition, Jamaica | Jamaica, which explores the contributions of Jamaican immigrants to the neighborhood’s cultural life.

Taking inspiration from Jamaica’s national motto, “Out of Many, One People,” the exhibition highlights stories of immigration, entrepreneurship, music, fashion, and migration that have shaped Southeast Queens.

The celebration will feature a DJ set from Killa Boo, live steel band, guest performances, fashion show, food tastings, book signing, artist meet-and-greet, authentic Caribbean cuisine, and a marketplace of local vendors.

This year’s festival is made possible with support from Resorts World NYC.

Jamaica | Jamaica runs through December 20.

Spirit of the Caribbean Fun Day is free and open to all ages.
