Vybz Kartel back in Jamaica ahead of Sumfest Crowning

Vybz Kartel is back on Jamaican soil ahead of his much anticipated performance at Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay. This will be the legendary deejay’s first time gracing the show in 14 years, as his last performance was in the summer of 2011.

His headlining performance isn’t the only thing fans are looking forward to as he will also be officially crowned the King of Dancehall during the 32nd staging of the event as per Downsound Entertainment CEO, Joe Bogdonavich, who is the promoter for Reggae Sumfest.

This title was previously held by another Dancehall legend, Beenie Man who was crowned at Sumfest in 2009.

The “Fever” deejay has been dominating 2025, releasing hit singles such as ‘Am Out’ and ‘God is Greatest’ which have accumulated north of 5 million and 13 million views on YouTube respectively.

Kartel has also headlined sold out arena shows at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn New York, Miami and France just to name a few.

Along with those performances, he is fresh off a historic performance at the 2025 Wireless Festival in London which was highlighted by the deejay sharing the stage with Hip Hop Megastar, Drake.

Vybz Kartel has been enjoying the fanfare upon his return to Jamaica as he shared moments with supporters in a series of posts on Instagram on Thursday.

One of these posts being a sit down with the aforementioned Joe Bogdonavich who said that there will be multiple crowns, after mentioning the upcoming crowning of Vybz Kartel.

The deejay is set to perform on Friday, July 18 at what promises to be an electrifying event and atmosphere and arguably one of his most anticipated appearance since he was released almost a year ago on July, 31 2024 following his 13-year incarceration.
