Keshorn Walcott secured second place in the men’s javelin at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Chorzów, Poland, on Saturday. The Trinidad and Tobago thrower recorded a best distance of 82.54 metres at the Diamond League meet.
The event was won by Kenya’s Julius Yego, who produced a throw of 83.60 metres. It marked Yego’s first Diamond League victory since 2016, ending a long wait for the former world champion. Moldovan athlete, Andrian Mardare, finished third with a throw of 82.38 metres which was a season best.
Walcott, the 2012 Olympic champion, continued his consistent season on the international circuit with another top-three finish. His result keeps him in contention for points in the Diamond League standings ahead of the final.
The men’s javelin in Poland featured a strong field with athletes from Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean, as the build-up continues toward the World Athletics Championships later this year.
