Walkers and Joggers need to exercise responsibility

1 week ago 3

Walkers and joggers are active around the Ato Boldon Stadium in the mornings and evenings. Over the past decade, many have wanted to return to walking and running for daily steps or miles around the stadium, a safe and well-maintained space. The Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SPORTT) has officially opened the stadium’s perimeter to the public, offering a great new opportunity to stay active.

Confirmed Path and Rules

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, SPORTT has established simple guidelines. They have also posted two large, clear notice boards at key points along the route. These boards display all the essential information, from operating hours to basic rules. These official regulations are being put into place after people were initially allowed to exercise throughout the sporting area. However, the necessary change should not be an issue for walkers and joggers.

The designated walking and jogging area is the perimeter road around the stadium. This means no entering the aquatic and cycling velodrome areas, which are reserved for professional athletes and scheduled events. It’s a simple request that doesn’t prevent anyone from having a space to walk and jog. For those who want to cycle, walk their pets, or play ball games along the approved pathway, check with security officers at the main entrance to see if it’s permitted. When in doubt, ask the security officers.

Keep This Opportunity Alive

As the saying goes, with great opportunity comes great responsibility. Using the facility is a privilege, not a right, and it’s one we all want to safeguard. If a few people ignore the guidelines, it can spoil the experience for everyone. Not adhering to the rules, especially by ignoring the marked perimeter and notice boards, could jeopardise the entire programme. If the rules aren’t followed, this hard-won opportunity could be taken away. After requesting this for a decade, none of us wants to see it lost.

So, let’s work together to make this a success. Watch for signs, stay on the perimeter, and respect the space and other users. This is our chance to demonstrate that we can be responsible stewards of the facility. Let’s gear up and make the most of this opportunity. Our personal best is waiting for us!!
