A Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) employee was killed yesterday, as he stood under a tent along Lady Young Road, Morvant.
Police identified the victim as Garvin Forde, 40, of Morvant Road, Morvant.
When Guardian Media visited the scene, no one in the immediate area was willing to speak about the incident, which occurred just after noon, as they did not want to be accused of “carrying news.” However, they admitted that the victim was not known to be involved in anything.
One man claimed, “He was a cool dude.”
An elderly woman, who wept as she confirmed hearing the gunshots, said that upon realising it was been Forde who was shot, she reflected on the fact that “he was a really nice guy.”
A female resident in the nearby Las Alturas housing scheme recalled hearing gunshots as she stood outside washing.
“My heart stopped when it started. I just dropped the clothes I was rinsing by hand in the sink and run back inside.”
Placing her right hand on her chest as she spoke with Guardian Media, she said, “My heart is still pounding as I talking to you. I scared.”
Someone who described themselves as a close friend said Forde was athletic, a peacemaker, and was not known to be involved in anything illegal.
Forde was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
