Weekend Blaze Destroys Restaurant and Bar on Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway

Fire burnt to the ground, a restaurant and bar on the Thomas Vincent Highway over the weekend. Harry Arzu tells us more

Harry Arzu, Dangriga Correspondent: “A lively restaurant and bar located at mile 29 on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway and at the junction of Georgetown Village here in the Stann Creek District was engulfed in flames and turned to rubble. The incident occurred in the wee hours of Friday 31st according to the owner of the building Daniel Arzu, who is the chairman of Georgetown Village. Arzu gave us more details.”

Daniel Arzu, Chairman, Georgetown Village: “I received a call from the proprietor of California View Cool Spot and saying that the California View Cool Spot was under fire. Upon arrival observed that the structure indeed was engulfed in flames. This structure is a wooden structure with thatched roofing and part of the structure itself also have a zinc roofing. The fire was so intense so I called the police. I waited there for two hours for the police and the fire services and they did not arrive. So given that the place was already completely destroyed there was no need to be standing around because the authorities did not show up so then I went home and at home about 20 minutes or so later the police survived and I indicated to them that I was there for two hours waiting to see what possibly could have been done from the fire services but unfortunately nothing could have been done. The building itself and it contents actually they have freezers in the bar they have stove they have kitchen utensils they have an enormous amount of drinks, they have a sound system in there they have all what it requires the tables, the chairs, a pool table all those things were inside the building itself and I would estimate a complete loss of about 87,000 dollars.”

Harry Arzu, Dangriga Correspondent:  “Arzu also lamented that he is still waiting for the relevant authorities to provide him with an investigative report concerning his building that was destroyed by fire.”

Daniel Arzu, Chairman, Georgetown Village:“To them, they haven’t even visited me or probably are waiting for me to visit them. But I think if there is an investigation, they should find those concerned so that the relevant questions can be asked for them to literally render their opinion regarding the incident itself.”
