The Association for Dispute Resolution of Belize, known as ADRAB, has elected a new executive led by President Wendy Oxley. Members voted during the association’s annual general meeting on Saturday, September 26, at the University of the West Indies Open Campus. ADRAB is a professional membership association that brings together mediators, arbitrators and other dispute-resolution practitioners. Its roots are in Belize’s mediation community, with records of members’ involvement dating back to at least 2013. The association operates through an executive elected by its members. Its stated mandate is to promote peaceful ways of resolving disputes, strengthen professional development and encourage collaboration among practitioners. Mediation involves a neutral person helping parties reach an agreement, while arbitration involves an arbitrator hearing a dispute and making a decision. Under Oxley’s leadership, ADRAB plans to expand its membership and public outreach. The association is inviting experienced and newly trained practitioners to join and support the development of dispute resolution in Belize.
