West Indies confident of winning fifth straight ODI series at home, says Sammy

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Having been dominant at home in One Day Internationals (ODIs) over the past three years, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expects that trend to continue when they face Sri Lanka in a three-match series in exactly a week.

The Windies have won four straight home ODI series, with their last loss coming at the hands of India in August 2023.

Since then, they defeated England 2-1 in December of 2023 and again in 2024, blanked Bangladesh 3-o in 2024 and most recently, they triumphed over Pakistan 2-1 in a historic win last year.

It will be their first ODIs for the year, having last played the format during the tour of New Zealand in late 2025 when they were thumped 3-0.

With the opening match scheduled to bowl off in Jamaica on June 3, Sammy said he was confident that the winning streak would be extended.

“In ODI cricket, we’ve made home a fortress for us and to see the guys coming in and putting in the work, I’m happy with what I’m seeing in the camp.

“Basically, what we’ve been able to do at home is that our spinners have been able to take wickets in the middle, our fast bowlers in Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph have contributed with getting wickets up front and putting pressure on the opposition,” Sammy said.

“But the most important thing is the way our batsmen have come out. They know our conditions and they’ve scored big runs. Every series, I think we’ve had one or two hundreds and we have to continue that.

“Sri Lanka is a team that will know the conditions as well because it’s similar to what they face at home, but I think the battle of the series is how well we play their spinners and how well our fast bowlers bowl against their batsmen up front…So again I’m looking forward to the series where we will continue our dominance at home,” he further added.
