NEWPORT, Wales – Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed that a 16-member West Indies Women’s squad is in Newport, Wales, for a 10-day preparatory camp, which started Thursday (May 14) and runs until May 23, as the Maroon Warriors intensify their build-up to the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.
The camp marks a critical phase of the team’s preparation ahead of a pivotal tri-nation T20 series in Ireland, where they will face hosts Ireland and Pakistan.
The matches are expected to provide vital exposure in conditions closely mirroring those of the global tournament, which begins June 5.
Over the next 10 days, the squad will hone technical skills, refine tactical planning, engage in match simulations, undergo fitness conditioning, and participate in team-building exercises.
The West Indies Women enter this period riding the momentum of a semi-final appearance at the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, and the team believes it has grown substantially in experience, depth, and confidence over the past two years.
CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe emphasised the strategic value of the camp’s location and the subsequent tri-series.
“The opportunity to train in the United Kingdom and then also get the experience of playing competitive matches in Ireland in similar conditions immediately before the start of the June 5 tournament is invaluable,” Bascombe said. “This period will be utilised to help the squad gel, cement game plans, and remain connected. We are looking forward to a great showing by several key veterans and the emergence of our future stars, on the back of this extended preparation.”
The Wales camp follows a deliberate preparation pathway already featuring white-ball contests against Sri Lanka and Australia earlier this year. The upcoming tri-series offers another chance to fine-tune combinations and strengthen execution under pressure.
The West Indies Women open the tri-nation series on May 28 against Ireland, with their final group fixture set for June 3 against Pakistan.
They will then return to England for the World Cup, beginning their campaign against New Zealand on June 13. Final squads for both the tri-series and the World Cup will be announced at a later date.
Training camp participants: Aaliyah Alleyne, Eboni Brathwaite, Shermaine Campbelle, Jahzara Claxton, Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Jannillea Glasgow, Shawnisha Hector, Chinelle Henry, Zaida James, Qiana Joseph, Mandy Mangru, Hayley Matthews, Ashmini Munisar, Karishma Ramharack, Stafanie Taylor.
