WestJet to launch new nonstop Winnipeg-Belize City flights

Belize is set to receive an additional airlift boost from Canada later this year, as WestJet prepares to introduce a new nonstop service between Winnipeg and Belize City for the 2026–2027 winter season.  The once-weekly flight is scheduled to begin on December 14, connecting Winnipeg Richardson International Airport with the Philip Goldson International Airport. It will complement WestJet’s existing nonstop services to Belize from Toronto and Calgary.  The route is one of five new destinations being added to the airline’s winter network. Other services will connect Canadian cities with Mérida and San José del Cabo in Mexico, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, and Liberia in Costa Rica.  WestJet’s Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said the expansion responds to growing demand for travel to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean during the peak winter season.  Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler welcomed the announcement, describing it as a sign of confidence in Belize’s continued growth as a travel destination. Mahler said the additional route will give Canadian visitors greater access to Belize’s cultural, archaeological and nature-based attractions.  Canada is regarded as one of Belize’s more important international tourism markets, particularly for adventure, cultural and eco-tourism. The Belize Tourism Board says the new service forms part of its strategy to increase airlift and diversify the country’s visitor markets.  While the additional flight is expected to support tourist arrivals and the wider hospitality sector, the service will initially operate only once per week and is being introduced as a seasonal route. Its longer-term continuation is therefore likely to depend on passenger demand and WestJet’s future network planning.  The Winnipeg–Belize City service is scheduled to launch on December 14.
