ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC):

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced an exciting home series for the West Indies Academy team against Sri Lanka’s Emerging Players, set to take place from June 7-26, 2025 in Antigua.

The tour will include two four-day first-class matches and three 50-over fixtures, providing vital exposure for the region’s rising stars.

The four-day matches will be held at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium (SVRS) and the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG), while the 50-over contests will alternate between the two venues.

This series is a key part of CWI’s long-term strategy to bridge the gap between regional and international cricket, offering young players a platform to showcase their talent.

Miles Bascombe, CWI’s director of cricket, emphasised the importance of competitive fixtures in player development.

“These matches are a critical step in the pathway for our emerging players. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition from junior to senior levels, and this series against Sri Lanka will help sharpen the skills of our best prospects as they prepare for higher honours,” he said.

Ramesh Subasinghe, head coach of the West Indies Academy, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming challenge for his young cohorts.

“Our players have shown tremendous growth over the past seven months, both on and off the field. Facing an international side like Sri Lanka’s Emerging Players will allow us to assess our progress, identify areas for improvement, and continue building a strong foundation for West Indies cricket.”
