WI Women Slump to Defeat After Strong Start Against England

The West Indies suffered a 108-runs loss against England in the first One-Day International at Central Co-op County Ground, Derby.

Chasing 346 to win, the Windies were bowled out for 237 inside 49 overs.

Captain Hayley Matthews and Quiana Joseph shared in a 91 runs first wickets partnership before Matthews went for 48.

The Caribbean women then lost wickets at regular intervals.

Joseph made 62 and Aaliyah Alleyne scored 44. Linsey Smith took five wickets for 36 runs and Em Arlott bagged two wickets.

England’s 345 for 6 was built around two beautiful centuries, Amy Jones ,122 with 15 fours and a six, and Tammy Beaumount, 107 with eight fours and four sixes.

The two shared in a record opening stand of 222 runs.
