WIP Strikes Deal to Make Jamaica a Major Regional Marine Fuel Hub

Caribbean energy company, West Indies Petroleum Limited, WIP, has announced a landmark partnership with Sunoco LP, that will position Jamaica to become a major marine fuel hub in the Caribbean region.

Sunoco LP is a leading energy infrastructure and fuel distribution operator in North America.

Sunoco owns and operates terminals in the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Europe.

In a statement on Tuesday, West Indies Petroleum noted that the partnership officially began on January 1, 2025.

Chief Executive Officer, Charles Chambers, described the partnership as a game-changer for Jamaica’s marine fuel sector.

He says the collaboration with Sunoco will dramatically enhance WIP’s ability to serve vessels operating in Caribbean waters.

The partnership addresses key challenges in the marine fuel market, particularly related to credit and supply chain operations.

Chambers explained that marine fuel transactions involve very large volumes and require significant credit capacity both from suppliers and for customers.

He says Sunoco’s scale and financial strength will allow WIP to offer more competitive terms to vessel operators, potentially attracting ships that currently fuel at other ports.
