One woman is detained following a Sunday stabbing that left two Toledo men hospitalized. Yesterday, around 3:00 a.m. police were alerted that two stabbing victims had arrived at Punta Gorda Hospital. Upon responding, officers observed medical personnel treating Steven Pop, who was unconscious with two cut wounds to the left side of his neck and further injuries to the back of his neck. They also noted a second patient, Roberto Pop, a 30-year-old from Crique Jute Village, who sustained stab wounds to his left cheek and the right side of his face, along with a cut under his right eye and a laceration to his nose. Steven and Roberto Pop were socializing and consuming alcohol with a female relative after hours, but it didn’t take long before things went haywire resulting in the Pop Brothers falling victims to a stabbing. Stacy Smith Assistant Commissioner of Police told us today how it all unfolded during this afternoon’s press briefing.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police are investigating a stabbing incident that resulted in the injury of Steven and Roberto Pop both of Toledo District. This investigation commenced on 14 December when officers attached to the Punta Gorda police station were advised that two male persons were seeking medical attention at the Punta Gorda Hospital for stab wounds that they had sustained. What the investigators have discovered so far in the course of this investigation is that the male persons were along with a relative socializing and when they asked this particular relative to depart she is reported to have broken a pint bottle which she used to inflict the injuries on these individuals. The relative has since been detained as a part of this ongoing investigation. The information that we have is that they were socializing and consuming alcohol.”
An investigation into the incident is now underway./
