Woman Injured in Reported Shooting Near Hattieville

Police are investigating a reported shooting incident that left a woman injured yesterday evening in the Belize District.  According to initial reports, around 5:30, authorities received information that a female had been shot on Samuels Farm, located in Gracie Rock Village, Hattieville, and was being transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  Police responded and intercepted a black Mazda SUV near mile 17 on the George Price Highway. There, they met 25-year-old Trey Maller, a contractor of Pelican Street, Belize City, who informed officers that his girlfriend, 24-year-old Nelda Broaster, had been shot while opening a gate to exit the farm.  Maller reported that he did not see anyone in the area and did not hear any gunshot at the time of the incident.  Police then assisted in transporting Broaster toward Belize City, where they met a BERT ambulance near mile five. She was handed over to medical personnel and subsequently taken to the hospital. Doctors observed what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the right side of her buttocks, with no visible exit wound. She remains listed in stable condition.  Investigators later visited the scene at Samuels Farm; however, no expended shells were found, and no definitive crime scene was established. The caretaker of the property and other individuals in the area reported that they did not hear any gunshots or observe any incident.
