For the second time in two weeks a Jamaican national age group football team suffered World Cup qualification heart break.

This time the Under 20 Reggae Girls failed to advance to the final round after playing out a 1-1 draw with host Nicaragua in their decisive group D Concacaf qualifier on Monday night.

Jamaica went into the game needing a victory to advance and took a 44th minute lead through Andrene Smith. However, Nicaragua equalised in the 88th minute to secure the point they needed to eliminate Jamaica.

Both teams ended on seven points each but the hosts advanced with a superior goal difference.

Only last week the Under 17 Reggae Boyz failed to qualify for the World Cup after losing 2-1 to El Salvador, when they needed only to avoid defeat.
