A Woman Police Constable (WPC) is due to appear before a Master of the High Court at the Chaguanas Police Station today, after she was charged with three counts of larceny by trick.
WPC Misty Mitchell was formally charged at the Caroni Police Station yesterday.
According to police reports, an investigation was launched following a report of larceny by trick made on July 23, 2025.
The report alleged that in March, a Woman Police Constable obtained $35,000 from a man by falsely claiming she could expedite his Firearm User’s Licence application. In May, she allegedly demanded an additional $15,000, which she arranged to collect on July 26, 2025.
On that date, officers of the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB), with the assistance of a specialised unit, conducted a sting operation at a service station in Chaguanas. The suspect was arrested and searched, and $2,000 provided to her by the victim was found in her possession. She was subsequently taken to the Caroni Police Station.
Following further enquiries, and on the advice of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard SC, the WPC was released pending investigations.
On August 21, 2025, Mitchell was re-arrested and later charged with three counts of larceny by trick:
● Between March 5th and 10th – stealing $17,000 by trick.
● On March 14th – stealing $18,000 by trick.
● On July 26th – stealing $2,000 by trick.
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro strongly condemned the actions of the officer, saying:
“The Commissioner’s discretion in the issuance of Firearm User’s Licences is not a commodity. Any attempt to compromise this process, whether by members of the public or officers within the ranks, will be met with swift, uncompromising action.”
“We do not flinch from investigating, charging, and prosecuting our own. If you choose to barter integrity for greed, understand this: you risk not only your freedom, but your career, your reputation, and your future,” the top cop warned.
“I urge all to allow the legal process to unfold without interference. But let this moment stand as a clear warning, those engaged in corrupt practices must cease and desist immediately,” he stated. “The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service will not be complicit in silence, nor will it be gentle in response.”
