Yard Mas carnival revellers who had been yearning for a j’ouvert experience with the band, will now have the opportunity following the addition of the event to this year’s list of activities.

The band announced its addition to the list of its 2025 activities on Sunday during its 2025 band launch held at Palace Cineplex in Sovereign Cineplex, St Andrew. Yard Mas J’Ouvert will take place on April 26.

According to Andrew Bellamy, managing director, Yard Mas, the requests for a j’ouvert aspect to be added to the Yard Mas event line-up have been high.

Bacchanal, which in 2022, merged with Xodus, has its Bacchanal J’ouvert Paint Rave and GenXS, the GenXS Immortals J’ouvert.

“Including j’ouvert was an easy decision for us. For the first two years, people have been on our case saying we need to do a j’ouvert, but for the first two years, we have been focusing on getting our overall costume experience on point. So now that we have that on a certain level, and have the right support team and the right experts involved in the process, we know for a fact it was time to go into j’ouvert! The demand will increase, and people are excited about it,” Bellamy said at the launch event.

“We have found two amazing, strong partners, THC from New York, who have a strong diaspora following in New York, and then we have One People from Trinidad, who is extremely popular and experts in executing events as well. So I think the combination and the partnership between the three of us is going to deliver an unforgettable j’ouvert experience,” he added.

Anslam ‘Pecky’ Remy, director, One People, during an interview with The Gleaner, said he invited Bellamy to Trinidad some time ago to show him their j’ouvert experience, and he is happy Yard Mas chose to partner in the end.

“J’ouvert is going to be epic, really epic! It’s going to be creative. It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be ultra-sexy on the road. You will see water, paint, music and just about everything!”

As one of the brains behind this inaugural experience for Yard Mas, Remy was asked for details as to what patrons can expect from Yard Mas J’Ouvert, but he was tight-lipped.

“This year, they’ll have to look out. I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag, but we’re going to have some surprises, trust and believe that,” he said.
