Yohan Blake, ‘Bibi’ Gardner Receive National Honours

Former world 100 metres champion Yohan Blake is among five sport personalities to be honoured at the National Honours and Awards Ceremony on Heroes’ Day in October.

Blake is the youngest man to win a World Championship 100 metres title, doing so in Daegu in 2011. He’s the second fastest man ever over 100 and 200 metres.

Blake will receive membership in the Order of Distinction, Commander Class.

Ricardo Gardner, a member of Jamaica’s historic World Cup qualifying football team to France 1998, will be conferred with membership to the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer.

Former West Indies T20 captain Rovman Powell will also receive membership to the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer.

Dr. Michelle Holt, manager of many national sports teams, will also be conferred with membership to the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer for her contribution to medicine.

Veteran jockey Shane Ellis will receive a badge of honour for meritorious service in the sport of horse racing.

Nicholas Forde will receive a badge of honour for national service and volunteerism in the fields of public service, physiotherapy and sports.
