Young Reggae Boyz through to Torneo de Sol quarters

JAMAICA’S UNDER-17 Reggae Boyz bounced back from their first loss in Mexico’s Torneo de Sol to charge into the competition’s quarterfinals courtesy of a 3-1 win over Seleccion Liga Premier yesterday.

Playing in Group 3, the Jamaicans finished second among teams who all finished on six points. Liga Premier stayed top of the group courtesy of their plus-three goal difference.

Jamaica ended with a plus-one goal difference, just making the quarterfinal ahead of Seleccion Norte, who ended the group stage with six goals for and six goals against.

Seymour Reid scored a second-half hat-trick for Jamaica to put them into the quarters, where they will face Seleccion Metropolitana today at 1:20 p.m.

Also through to the quarterfinals are Mexico and Panama, and Norte, Liga Top, Occidente, and Guatemala are also through.

The Jamaicans had begun the group stage with a 3-2 win over Bajio, before losing 2-0 to Norte.

Norte snuck into the quarters courtesy of a 4-3 win over Bajio yesterday.

Jamaica have been using the tournament as preparation for the Concacaf U17 World Cup qualifiers.

Coach of the team Altomont Butler had said he would announce the squad that begins their qualification campaign next month at the end of the tournament.
