Youth Summer Camp Introduces Students to Careers in Agriculture

Thirty-five young people are gaining hands-on experience through a week-long Youth Summer Camp currently being held at the Agriculture and Natural Resources Institute (ANRI) in Hope Creek Village, Stann Creek District. The camp is designed to introduce participants to agriculture and natural resource management while equipping them with practical skills in crop production, livestock, and other aspects of modern farming. The initiative comes as Belize continues to encourage greater youth participation in the agricultural sector, which remains one of the country’s key economic industries, contributing to food security, employment, and rural development. Organizers hope the programme will inspire participants to view agriculture not only as a means of producing food but also as a viable career and business opportunity. Extension Officer Bernadette Cob spoke with our Dangriga Correspondent, Harry Arzu, about the camp and the importance of exposing young people to this industry at an early age.

The week-long programme is expected to conclude this Friday with participants showcasing what they have learned through a series of practical demonstrations.
