Zakour to drivers: Exercise caution

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Eli Zakour, has extended condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected by the accident which occurred this morning south of the Freeport intersection along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway.

Zakour, accompanied by Roger Alexander, Minister of Homeland Security, visited the scene of the accident where they met with affected individuals and received preliminary reports from the relevant authorities and the Public Transport Service Corporation.

Both Ministers expressed appreciation to first responders and emergency services for their response, which safeguarded the well-being of other passengers on board the PTSC bus.

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has called on all road users to exercise caution and responsibility on the roadways, stressing that road safety requires collective effort. The Ministry has reiterated its commitment to improving road safety nationwide.

Officials confirmed that bus driver Mustapha Khan and passenger Roxanne Phillip, a security officer attached to SWAT, both died in the collision. According to reports, the PTSC deluxe bus was heading south along the Solomon Hochoy Highway when, on passing the Freeport overpass, it slammed into the rear of a flatbed truck.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries, but Khan died at the scene. Phillip also lost her life and remained trapped beneath the wreckage.
