Unbeaten Barbados Women will clash with Leeward Islands Women to determine the champions of this year’s Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championships.
In a clash of two unbeaten teams yesterday, Barbados overcame the Leeward Islands by seven wickets to end the preliminary stage unbeaten.
The two teams will clash again for the title when they meet in the final today, while Trinidad & Tobago Women and Jamaica Women will play for third place and the Windward Islands and Guyana Women will play for fifth place.
At the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground: In a preview of the final, Barbados Women got the better of the Leeward Islands Women to keep their unbeaten record intact.
Spinners Naijanni Cumberbatch and Erin Deane shared nine wickets between them as Leeward Islands were bowled out for 67 in 15.3 overs.
Opener Sainavi Kambalapalli scored 41, but no other batter got into double digits, with Cumberbatch grabbing five wickets for eight runs while Deane took 4-17.
Cumberbatch wrapped up the innings by snaring three wickets in the space of four balls.
In their turn at the crease, Barbados was led by Asabi Callender’s unbeaten 30 from 47 balls as they cruised to 68 for three in 14.5 overs.
At the National Cricket Centre: Trinidad and Tobago Women pulled off a thrilling two-wicket victory over Guyana Women to earn themselves a place in the third-place match.
Brianna Harricharan grabbed a five-wicket haul as T&T dismissed Guyana for 70 in 26.4 overs.
Harricharan took 5-20 from six overs and she received good support from Amrita Ramtahal, who took 3-13, and Kenika Cassar, who claimed 2-2.
Latoya Williams (16) and Tiea Issacs (12) were the only two double-digit contributors for Guyana.
T&T Women found themselves in a spot of bother at 59 for seven, but managed to get over the line, thanks to Guyana’s 20 extras, finishing on 71 for eight in 22 overs.
For T&T Women, Kristina Naipaul scored 15, Brianna Harricharan made 11, and Sameera Naidoo, 10.
Danellie Mans (4-18) and Rebekah Cleto (2-17) were Guyana’s best bowlers.
At Diego Martin Sporting Complex: The Windward Islands Women ended the preliminary stage with a four-wicket over Jamaica Women.
Jamaica Women did themselves no favours by being skittled out for just 51 in 23.1 overs.
Selena Ross ran through Jamaica’s top and lower to finish with 6-4 from her seven overs.
Moniqueca Reid was the lone batter to offer any form of resistance, top scoring with 19 runs.
The Windward Islands then made light work of their target, ending on 55 for six in 21.5 overs with Kaela George leading the way with an unbeaten 14, while Natalia Philip made 14.
Brianna Plumber took 5-12 in a losing cause for Jamaica.
