Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing into the broad daylight murder of 35-year-old barber, Marcos Che, which occurred on Saturday afternoon inside his barbershop in Bella Vista Village, Toledo District.  The brazen homicide occurred just after twelve noon in the presence of patrons inside the 15-by-15-foot barber shop.  The assailant entered the establishment and fired as many as nine shots at the victim with what police believe to be a 9mm pistol. Che was struck multiple times to various parts of the body and collapsed on the spot.  Assistant Superintendent of Police, Stacy Smith, says the motive is still being ascertained.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Che was inside his barber shop, namely Barberia Che, when an unknown male person who wore a full face motorcycle helmet entered that establishment and fired a number of shots at Che, fatally wounding him. The male person who arrived at the establishment on a motorcycle subsequently made good his escape. The investigators have detained one person who they believe would be able to aid in this investigation and have also retrieved and are in the process of reviewing several video footages which are believed to be of evidential help.”

Residents have expressed concerns to the village leaders over the brazen broad daylight attack.  Bella Vista Chairman, Jose Morales, told Love News that such violent acts make villagers feel increasingly unsafe.

Jose Morales, Bella Vista Chairman: “Yes, he’s actually originally from here, from Bella Vista. He is a barber. As I mentioned, we went to school together. He was a cool guy. He was active in many events here as in back to school program, trimming kids for going back to school, the kids that don’t have money to pay a barber and things, you know. Well, we have small NGOs was here that come and form this event and he was one of them, you know, he was always active for the village, willing to support any event in regards to community events, you know. Yes, we know him as, you know, from kids we have grown here and we  come to primary school together and he was a humble guy in my eyes.”

Reporter: Have you heard any possible motive as to why they would have wanted to kill Marcus?

Jose Morales, Bella Vista Chairman: “No, no, no, no, no. I think the police are the ones investigating this issue.”

Che’s body was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a medical officer.
