Belize City Mechanic Charged After Stolen $2,700 Gold Ring Found at His Home

A Belize City mechanic has been arrested and charged with theft after a colleague’s gold ring, valued at $2,700, went missing from a worksite. Thirty-one-year-old Ricky Bevans of Justice Street appeared in court today, where he pleaded not guilty to a single charge of theft. Allegations are that on July 31, he stole the gold ring from fellow mechanic Charles Haylock. According to Haylock, he removed his ring during his lunch break at the Fire Station and placed it in his bag. When he finished work and checked his bag, the ring, which has a lodge sign on it, was gone. Haylock told police that only two coworkers, including Bevans, were at the worksite at the time. After both men denied any knowledge of the ring, Haylock contacted his boss and the police. During an investigation, police reportedly found the ring hidden at Bevans’ home under a staircase, where it was positively identified by Haylock. Bevans was granted bail in the amount of $1,500 plus one surety in the same amount. He is scheduled to return to court on October 23. One condition of his bail is that he is not to contact the virtual complainant or his family.////
