Belize City Taxi Driver Granted Bail on Sexual Assault Charge

A 51-year-old taxi driver of Lacroix Boulevard in Belize City is out on bail after being charged with sexual assault. Yesterday, he appeared unrepresented in court before Chief Magistrate Deborah Rogers. According to a complaint made by a woman, on September 6, Herbert G. Taylor allegedly made a sexual advance toward her, inappropriately touching her upper thighs. In court, Taylor, pleaded not guilty, stating, “I never touched the woman on her leg.” He was granted bail in the sum of $6,000, with two sureties of $3,000 each. As part of his bail conditions, he must stay at least 100 yards away from the victim and refrain from interfering with any prosecution witnesses. He is scheduled to reappear in court on December 12, 2025. In the meantime, he must report to the Mahogany Street Police Station every Tuesday between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
