A Belize City woman is out on bail after being charged for shoplifting. 61-year-old Jacqueline Welch, a resident of the Saint Martin de Porres area, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Ludlow Black, where she was read a single charge of theft. According to police, on Friday, August 8, at around 3:00 PM, a cashier at Bosco Supermarket on Central American Boulevard alerted the manager that two women were stealing items. Wu reviewed security camera footage, which showed the women, including one matching Welch’s description, taking six units of Aunt Jackie’s conditioner and a pack of White Rain soap, a total value of $98.95. A police officer on special duty at the store, alongside another officer, pursued the two women on Zericote Street. The women reportedly saw the officers and the store manager chasing them and managed to escape. Police later detained Welch, while the second suspect remains at large.
