Belize Softball Federation Receives Equipment Donation From Japan’s JICA

The Belize Softball Federation (BSF) has received a donation of baseball equipment, a move that is expected to boost the sport’s development in the country. The equipment was donated through a collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and was the result of efforts by a former student of JICA’s resident coach.  The items, which include gloves, baseballs, helmets, protective gear, and batting tees, were provided through a partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The handover ceremony took place at the Rogers Stadium in Belize City on Saturday morning.

The donation was made possible by Shoya Morita, a 16-year-old former student of JICA’s current coach in Belize, Kazu Shiiba. Coach Shiiba is in the country to help local athletes improve their skills.  According to Marconi Leal Jr., President of the BSF, baseball has been “dormant” in Belize for many years. However, he stated that the federation is committed to changing this, and the newly acquired equipment will be instrumental in achieving that goal.
