Belizean Cyclist Places Fifth at Junior Pan Am Road Race

Belizean cyclist Derrick Chavarria placed fifth in the Junior Pan American Championship Road Race, which was held in Paraguay on Sunday. Chavarria is part of a delegation led by the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (BOCGA). He was the only Belizean among the 48 competitors and finished the 147-kilometer race with a completion time of three hours, 18 minutes, and 57 seconds. Chavarria was ranked below the rider from Colombia, despite having the same completion time. Mexico, Uruguay, and Argentina took first, second, and third place, respectively. Chavarria told Love News that he gave it his all and is satisfied despite not making it on the podium.

The 2025 Junior Pan American Games began on August 9 and will run until August 23. Belize is participating in 5 events: cycling, swimming, athletics, weightlifting, and canoe sprint.
