Belizean-Mexican Man Shot Dead Outside Chetumal Plaza

Mexican authorities are investigating the murder of a 29-year-old Belizean/Mexican man who was fatally shot early Saturday morning near the Multiplaza Chetumal, at the intersection of Avenida Antonio Handall and 9th Street in the Sian Ka’an area of the city.  Reports from law enforcement indicate that the shooting occurred around 4:00 a.m., when the victim, Colin Clifton Cherrington Galban, was seen conversing with the occupants of a white compact vehicle, believed to be a Chevrolet Aveo. Moments later, gunshots rang out, and the man was struck multiple times as the assailants sped away from the scene.  Investigators recovered eleven expended shell casings and a projectile from the area. The injured man was rushed to the General Hospital of Chetumal but succumbed to his injuries during surgery.  The State Prosecutor General’s Office of Quintana Roo (FGE) has since launched a homicide investigation, and forensic specialists have conducted the removal of the body for post-mortem examination.
