A Belmopan woman has reported a fraud case after allegedly losing over $10,000 in a vehicle purchase scheme. According to police, 29-year-old Karelis Yang reported on Thursday, August 7, that she had contacted a man, Orlic Bennett, to purchase a 2014 Ford Escape. Over several weeks, Yang sent Bennett a total of $10,350 to a Belize Bank account and via Zell for the vehicle’s purchase, towing, repairs, and a battery. Yang alleges that after initially receiving photos and videos of the vehicle, Bennett stopped communicating with her. She said he contacted her again on August 6, demanding the remaining balance of $1,150 and stating that she would now be responsible for the duty fees, contrary to their original agreement. A police investigation is underway.
